Flora Obeto is a highly accomplished Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Governance expert currently serving as a Partner at Lawfic Attorneys. In this role, she advises local and international clients on complex corporate, commercial, regulatory, and strategic legal matters across multiple sectors of the economy. She brings a rare combination of top-tier private practice experience and executive in-house leadership, with a strong focus on commercially driven solutions, strategic problem-solving, and deep expertise in highly regulated industries across East Africa.
Prior to her current role, Flora served as Head of Legal and Company Secretary for one of Tanzania’s leading oil marketing companies and licensee of globally recognised petroleum and lubricants brands. As part of the executive leadership team, she provided legal and strategic oversight on high-value commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, risk management, litigation, and board advisory matters. She also advised senior management and the Board on evolving regulatory frameworks within the downstream petroleum sector, ensuring strong governance and compliance standards across the organisation.
Earlier in her career, Flora practiced at one of Tanzania’s leading corporate law firms within a global network spanning over 40 countries, where she advised multinational and local clients on cross-border transactions, banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, regulatory compliance, and general corporate advisory work. Her professional excellence has earned her international recognition, including being twice named an IFLR1000 “Rising Star” and her inclusion in The Legal 500 General Counsel Powerlist: East Africa 2024.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Politics and an LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law School of Tanzania, completed in record time as a testament to her discipline and commitment to excellence.
